Warrenton

Warrenton originated at the junction of the Falmouth-Winchester and Alexandria-Culpeper roads, where a trading post called the Red Store used to stand. The Town of Warrenton was incorporated in 1810 and got its name from General Joseph Warren. Today, one of Warrenton's most notable aspects is its rich history. The town has managed to preserve its historic character through its well-preserved architecture and historic landmarks like the Old Fauquier County JailYorkshire HouseHopefieldNorth Wales, and many more. The Warrenton Historic District made the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Warrenton also boasts a vibrant and active community. The town hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including parades, festivals, farmers' markets, and concerts. The town also hosts art festivals, live music events, and theatrical productions, providing residents ample opportunities to appreciate the arts. Recently, in March of 2023, Warrenton ranked No. 82 on the list of 150 best small towns to visit, according to a survey by Family Destinations Guide.

Fauquier County is known as Horse & Wine Country, and Warrenton embraces that! One of the highlights of the equestrian scene in Warrenton is the annual Virginia Gold Cup, a prestigious steeplechase race that attracts both local and international participants. The Warrenton Horse Show, held annually, is a five-day show offering a variety of competition classes, including ladies' sidesaddle, hunters, jumpers, hunting pairs and more. Warrenton is also home to one of the oldest active fox-hunting organizations in the US, the Warrenton Hunt. The equestrian culture in Warrenton extends beyond the competitive and recreational aspects. The town is also home to various equine-related businesses, such as feed stores, farriers, equine veterinarians, and equine-focused retailers. Wine lovers can venture into the countryside that surrounds Warrenton to one Piedmont's 114 wineries. With almost 70 wineries within an hour's drive from Warrenton, the wine scene is impressive here.
