Named after early politician Silas Burke, who once owned a great deal of land in the area, Burke is a community built around a lake providing family activities and stunning scenery. Burke even made CNN Money’s 2008 list of Top Places to Live.

Burke's outdoor recreation activities make this community shine! The most notable Burke Park, Burke Lake Park features an expansive lake with fishing, boating, rowboat rental, camping, a miniature train, a carousel, outdoor volleyball courts, open fields, an 18-hole par 3 golf course, clubhouse with snack bar and driving range, disk golf, horseshoe pits, an ice cream parlor, picnic areas with grills, 3 playgrounds, trails, amphitheater, and a miniature golf course. But one of its most exciting features is the Burke Lake Trail, named one of the ten best fitness trails by the American Hiking Society. 

Another notable feature in Burke is the Workhouse Arts Center. The Workhouse Arts Center is a 55-acre portion of the former Lorton Reformatory prison that was turned into a flourishing cultural arts center in 2008. The property features galleries, artist studios, dance studios, music rooms, event spaces, movement/exercise studios, and much more! 

Burke residents often live in the area and commute to Washington D.C. Although Burke itself does not have a Metro station, you can access the Metro from nearby Vienna or Fairfax. Burke does however have Metro bus services and a VRE station. Traffic getting in and out of Washington D.C. can be challenging. Most people recommend utilizing public transportation, especially the Metro or VRE to avoid long waits in the traffic at peak time
